ANIMATION POST - MADAME BUTTERFLY

THE ANIMATION OF MADAME BUTTERFLY WAS NOT AS EFFECTIVE AS THE OPERA IN MY OPINION. I THINK THAT ONE OF THE MAIN THINGS THAT WAS MISSING FOR ME WAS THE BACKSTORY THAT THE OPERA PROVIDED. IN THE ANIMATION IT IS UNCLEAR WHY MADAME BUTTERFLY IS ALONE, WHO PINKERTON IS, HOW THEY CAME TO MEET, AND WHAT HIS INTENTION WAS WITH HER. IN THE OPERA I WAS GIVEN A MORE COMPLETE PICTURE OF THE STORY BEFORe MADAME BUTTERFLY'S CHILD WAS BORN. I DID REALLY ENJOY THE GRAPHICS IN THE ANIMATED VERSION OF THE STORY AND THOUGHT THAT IT WAS DONE EXTREMELY WELL. I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THE ENDING - EVEN MORE THAN THE ENDING TO THE OPERA VERSION. I THINK THAT THE USE OF THE UMBILICAL CORD AND THAT PINKERTON WAS THE ONE WHO BROKE IT BEFORE GIVING THEIR CHILD TO HIS NEW WIFE DISPLAYED THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF ATTACHMENT TURNED SADNESS IN BUTTERFLY'S CHARACTER. THE MUSIC WAS APPEALING TO ME IN THE OPERA BECAUSE THERE WAS A LOT MORE OF IT AND I ENJOYED LISTENING TO IT.

  1. Hi Allison,
I agree with you that some of the backstory of Madame Butterfly was missing within the Animation. However, I believe that the writers did this in order to emphasize other scene's within the opera. For example, the animation emphasizes the bond Madame Butterfly has with her daughter by linking them with the umbilical cord. The use of the umbilical cord allows the audience to see the true effects of Pinkerton's decision to take away their daughter. Therefore even though some of the backstory was missing, this was purposely done in order to highlight certain scene's within the animation.

XEROX

This box is representative of my childhood and how I sometimes wish to return to it. I included a colorful background mimicking my favorite game as a kid - candy land. On all sides, I put xerox pictuers of me reaching towards the top of the box (the sweet stuff), because that is what I miss most about being a kid. I also made 2 trees on one side because I have two trees in the front yard of my childhood home. The music I put to the background of the video is of a child laughing, because I remember laughing a lot when I was a kid playing games with my family.

11/18 recap

Today we learned about stimulations and asked ourselves if we believe that our world is a simulation. We watched video installation videos about virtual reality. This relates to me because my brother is really into virtual reality and studies it at his university. Nowadays, there a lot of ways that people can interact with virtual reality including headsets, glasses, and games. We related this to fake news and the future of the fact. We discussed robots and how they are being integrated into the work force. We looked at a Google Ad for the Tilt Brush.
