I learned from this opera how important it is for music to be included in the intense parts of the performance. During the suicide scene in Madame Butterfly, if there was no music corresponding with it - it would not have had the same effect on the audience. Originally when this opera came out, I think there might have been mixed feelings about it, especially in the Japanese community. I think the way that she killed herself is so prominently connected with bringing shame to your family that viewers might have disagreed with the ending. She did not bring shame to her family - rather Pinkerton should be ashamed of his action. I think this piece is vital in the movement of opera/performance in general away from religion/religious purposes. The technology used includes the music that corresponds to the scene and also the scenery itself being able to move and change. The video game that I would create would be like Wii boxing but between Pinkerton and Madame Butterfly. Here Madame Butterfly would be able to punch back at Pinkerton when he hurts her (emotionally and physically).

I like the idea of Wii boxing. Pinkerton had it coming. It is a fun twist on the plot that allows for entertaining revenge. Good idea.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of Wii boxing. It gives a chance for Madame Butterfly to stand up for herself and fight back. Since you like the audio so much in the opera, would you use the same type of music in your video game, or do you think there would be a better type of audio that would accompany your game better?
ReplyDeleteI really like your idea for the video game because it is a chance to get justice for the horrible things Pinkerton did to Madame Butterfly. I also think your thought on the actual suicide being shameful to the family is interesting too, I never thought of it like that.
ReplyDeleteWii boxing was a very creative idea. I think one of the feelings of the audience and Madama Butterfly is revenge, and that game is an excellent way to achieve revenge.
